Position Summary:
The Rawlinson lab (https://www.rawlinsonlab.org) at the MBL seeks a highly motivated individual to join the Josephine Bay Paul Center as a Postdoctoral Scientist. The successful candidate will work on the development of the human blood fluke, Schistosoma mansoni, with a particular focus on the nervous system.
Additional Information:
The specific goal of the project is to characterize the nervous systems of the two infective larval stages to understand host finding and infection biology. Techniques used to achieve this goal will be single cell RNAseq, in situ hybridization, immunofluorescence, advanced light and electron microscopy, behavioural assays and connectomics.
Basic Qualifications:
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences; prior experience in one or more of bioinformatics, advanced light or electron microscopy; and be independent, enthusiastic, self-motivated, productive, and enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have direct experience with gene and protein expression analysis and organismal and ultrastructural imaging. Previous experience with connectomics would be a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Minimal exposure to pathogenic organisms and biohazardous chemicals. Occasional lifting of heavy objects (<30 pounds).
